“I feel like I’m ready to conquer every obstacle that I’ll come across in this journey of life” – Alicedale Siyazenzela Graduate
During the month of April 2023, the Youth Development team travelled to the small town of Alicedale in the Eastern Cape to implement a 15-day Siyazenzela Employability, Wellness and Leadership training course. Plagued with a staggering unemployment rate, the community welcomed the opportunity to upskill their young people.
The course commenced on the 3rd of April 2023 and, apart from the traditional content, included visits from partner organisations including LoveLife, KFC and Green Solar Academy. The beneficiaries also enjoyed a one-day Wilderness Nature Trail in the Zuurberg section of Addo Elephant National Park.
Sixteen learners successfully completed the course and graduated during a heart-warming ceremony conducted at the Bushmans Sands Hotel. Guest speaker, Nobesuthu Ndlovu’s message of taking courage, being brave and “failing forward” resonated with all in attendance.
A highlight of the event was the announcement of the learner selected to complete the Umzi Wethu Vocational Scholarship in Conservation. The audience erupted in loud applause when Masiwakhe Madondile was named as the successful applicant.
WFA is also very proud that at least seven graduates have already received employment offers after attending interviews arranged for them during the Siyazenzela training course.
In the words of one of the Alicedale community members “I sincerely believe never has such respect been shown to folks in this community; the experience and motivation will stay forever….”
