A New One Health Partnership with Medivet

Jan 21, 2025 | WFA News

For over nine years, Medivet has supported the work of Wilderness Foundation Africa’s Forever Wild Rhino Protection Initiative.

Throughout this time, Medivet provided much needed funds that have helped enable multiple aspects of our work, including anti-poaching initiatives, establishing new rhino populations, the conservation and protection of suitable rhino habitat and vital education work with local communities.

This included:

▪️Helping treat over 50 rhinos attacked by poachers as well as orphaned rhinos
▪️Funding 2 tracker dogs over a 7-year period supporting a reduction in the number of rhinos killed
▪️Contributing towards the running and maintenance of specialised #antipoaching planes
▪️Providing rabies vaccines for over 2000 dogs in local communities
▪️Providing flea, tick and worming for nearly 1000 dogs in local communities
▪️Neutering over 100 dogs to support population control and reduce the spread of disease

Excitingly, we have now expanded our partnership with Medivet to include our sister organisation, Wilderness Foundatiton UK, in support of our shared commitment to ‘One Health’. From the wildlife reserves of the Eastern Cape of South Africa, to the healing woodlands of the UK countryside – all united under the umbrella of protecting our wilderness as sanctuaries to care, protect and heal for the benefit of animals, people and planet.
